"Rollin' the Dice" Results

Last Friday, we rolled a LOT of dice and, with your help, the results are in!

Now, we have to make sense of these in terms of what we know about probability and chance.

In Class:
Settlers of Catan is a fabulous board game that led the way for many strategy games on the market.  It's about 15 years old, and it has a huge following around the world.  Though most of the game is based on strategy and skill, there is a bit left to chance.  Take a look at part of the game board:

Players position settlements at the intersection of the hexagons and earn resources based on rolling two dice.  For example, look at the 5 in the yellow hexagon in the center -- when the sum of 5 is rolled, players who have a settlement on that hexagon get one yellow wheat card to use to purchase other items in the game.  A player gets to earn three resources with one settlement because it is next to three different hexagons.  So if a player is on the yellow 5, the light green 12 and the dark green 6, they could earn each of those resources whenever a 5, 6, or 12 are rolled.  Make sense?
