It's the 5th of May. . . .  And it's still *cold* outside!  Can we get some spring weather, already?  Well, even if the weather's not, MATH IS HOT!  :-)

Can you mentally calculate a 20% tip?


In Class:
Today is all about independent events. I'm talking about two things that don't have an effect on each other. Like flipping a coin and rolling a die -- flipping the coin "heads" has no effect on whether a "2" or a "3" is rolled on the die. We need to learn some vocabulary today, so write down definitions and examples in your Math Spiral for these terms:

• Outcome (p. 630)
• Tree Diagram (p. 636)
• Independent Event (p. 642)

Let's take a closer look at how using tree diagrams can help us.  Consider what could happen if you rolled a die, then flipped a coin. . . .
