On a separate sheet of paper, answer each of the following questions either drawing a picture to support your answer, or writing a complete sentence.

1. Write each fraction in correct notation.  Then use either an area model, a line model, or a set model to show each of the following fractions:

• one fourth
• two fifths
• one sixth
• three tenths
• seven fourths

2. Use your models as a reference, answer each sentence in a complete sentence.

• What does the top number of a fraction mean?
• What does the bottom number of a fraction mean?

3. Answer each question, drawing a model to justify your answer.

• Three people are sharing 8 brownies so that each gets an equal share.  How many brownies will each person get?
• Five people are sharing 3 pizzas so that each gets an equal share.  How much pizza will each person get?
