Hope you enjoyed your weekend! The "24" competition was Saturday and we had 4 students participate: JT Fuzi, Annika Runia, Ryanne Bates, and Camille Robertson. Congratulations to JT for winning 2nd place out of all 6th graders in the district! You all rock!
Math Magic:
1. Write down one 1-digit number and one 2-digit number.
2. Add these together.
3. Multiply by 5.
4. Add your 1-digit number to the product in step 3.
5. Double your answer from step 4.
6. Subtract your 1-digit number from the answer in step 5.
If you do this with a friend, ask them for their answer in step 6. In your head, break their number down into two separate numbers -- the last number of their answer is the 1-digit number they chose. Subtract the 1-digit number from the other number to get their 2-digit number. Cool, huh? You're psychic!
In Class:
1. Review some common units used in weight, length, and capacity.
2. Convert units by making equivalent ratios. For example, if we know that 1 foot = 12 inches, we can determine how many feet are in 66 inches by setting up the ratios
1 : 12 = ? : 66
Solve for the unknown and get 5.5 feet. Easy!
Assignment:
